INGREDIENTS
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1-pound ground sausage (Jimmy Dean)
- 1 diced onion
- 2 cups flour
- 2 tablespoon active yeast
- 4 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs (one for dough and one for egg wash)
- ½ cup butter melted
- 1 cup warm milk
INSTRUCTIONS
1.Activate yeast
2.Warm up milk (not too hot) and add to bowl with yeast
3.Add sugar and leave until fully activated
4.In large bowl, combine flour, salt, 1 egg, yeast with milk, and butter
5.Mix with a spoon and use your hands to work the dough
6.Dough should no longer stick to your fingers and the bowl should be clean
7.Place towel over the bowl and leave to rise in a warm place until it doubles in size
8.Brown beef, sausage and onion to create filling; drain any excess liquid; and add salt and pepper to taste
9.Once dough has risen then flatten it again with hands and then form into mini balls about tablespoon size
10.Roll out the mini dough balls on both sides with a rolling pin on a four surface. This should create a circle of dough approximately 5 inches in diameter
11.Add one tablespoon of meat filling on one half the dough, fold dough over and pinch all sides to close
12.Repeat with all the dough
13.Layer Piroshki on greased baking tray
14.Whisk one egg and brush the tops
15.Bake 350 degrees for 15 minutes until golden brown
16.Allow them to slightly cool on wire rack before eating
